Coming Up: the Jackie Orszaczky Music Lecture

Jack res
Jackie Orszaczky: the hub around which the many-spoked wheel of Sydney’s music scene once revolved.

On Tuesday May 30 I’m lucky enough to be giving the second Jackie Orszaczky Music Lecture at the Basement. It is called meaning Each Note: Truth, Universality and Cultural Amnesia. Into it I’ll weave Jackie’s grand legacy as well as some more, er, opinionated thrusts.

After my half-lecture the Jackie Orszaczky Budget Orchestra will play two sets of music by or associated with Jack. The all-star band has singers Tina Harrod, Darren Percival and Virne Sanzone, drummer Hamish Stuart, bassist Dave Symes, guitarists Arne Hanna and Scott Leishman, keyboards-players Clayton Doley and Stu Hunter, trombonists James Greening and Anthony Kable and saxophonist Matt Keegan.

Here’s a little preview of the lecture in an interview I did with Andrew Ford on RN’s The Music Show:

.

It’s an early start: doors open at 7pm, and the action begins at 7.30. Should be a great night!
